I had lunch at The Chequers today with my eldest son. The service was superb, the food even more so. I have never eaten a better Sunday lunch. So often these can become standard, boring meals - nothing about what we ate and drank today could ever be described as that. Imagine a puree of parsnips under the most succulent and soft roast beef, with crispy parsnip strips, carrots cooked with star anise, and all the other delicious vegetables. That is not to mention the glorious horseradish pannacotta with cured salmon as a starter, and the final vanilla cheescake. Cannot praise it enough. Hope too many people don't make it difficult to book again!

All of our guests raved about their superb lunch experience on 16 August 2014. We worked closely with Steve and Jade to design a fabulous 3 course lunch, together with canapés and petit fours, complemented by a NZ Sauvignon blanc and Spanish Rioja. From start to finish, the service was discreet and impeccable. We could not have wished for a better anniversary lunch experience. It exceeded our own high expectations and look forward to dining there again soon. Well done to the whole team at The Chequers.

This was not my first visit to Chequers and judging by its latest performance it won't be my last. This restaurant continues to impress me with the quality of its food and the attention to detail of its staff. They made life very easy for us, dining as we were en famille with my young grandson. He was easily distracted and liked to get down and take a walk round the premises between courses. None of this phased them. It's almost as if they instinctively knew the challenges involved in acculturating youngsters to the experience of eating in restaurants. It goes without saying that the food was great but today I want to give credit to the waiting staff, especially the waitress who cared for our table and enabled us all to have a great time being together while enjoying the ambience of this fine establishment.

For all round Great Food & Drink, Top Drawer Hospitality and amazing value for money you will be hard pushed to find anywhere nearby that can touch this hidden Gem.
Chef & Owner Steve Sanderson has done a wonderful job here of creating a really tasty, varied and well thought out menu along with an excellent and extensive drinks and wine list all at a very reasonable price.
I opted for the chicken liver parfait to start followed by the belly pork for main. Both dishes exceeded all expectation. Mouth-wateringly tasty, well presented and just the right amount which is always something I think establishments in this category struggle to get right. My other half opted for the mussels to start followed by the Lamb Rump. He assures me this was equally fabulous!
We decided the Chocolate Brownie looked too good to ignore but in an effort to salvage some brownie points from my trainer we opted to share it! I'm so glad we did.... Otherwise I could quite happily and greedily eaten this all to myself! Absolutely delicious.
One final note that must not go unmentioned is the wine I chose to accompany my dinner which came recommended by our very attentive waiter. Whilst my partner chose a local beer I chose The Trapezio, a Malbec, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon mix.... I was not disappointed. Sensational. So good in fact that we bought a bottle to take home!
We had a fantastic experience with all aspects of dining and drinks here and to think the bill for both of us for all our food and drinks was just £90 shows how great the value is here also.
Will be making this a frequent place to visit. Top job Steve Sanderson and team. Take a bow!

Chef/owner Steven Sanderson has a superb repertoire of meals and unique presentation style which is highly recommended.
Additionally the very professional and attentive service of front of restaurant Charlie is really refreshing and complements the whole style of Stevens cooking and presentation.
Undoubtedly the finest restaurants that i have eaten in the area and is highly recommended.

I have travelled far and wide, and at each place have sampled local food. However, the place I love the most of all is The Chequers At Burcot. I discovered it via the Jack fm vouchers, and have been back countless times. Each time my view is confirmed.

The Chef owner, Steve Sanderson, and his staff work hard to provide a fantastic dining experience. The welcoming smiles are genuine and the ambience is understated elegance without a hint of pretentiousness. The service is at just the right level of attentiveness. However the proof of the pudding is in the eating – each generously portioned, fairly priced dish looks and tastes impeccable.

Our latest visit was yesterday. My husband started with mussels which were done to perfection (not an easy task) with a sauce that was delicately seasoned and not over-creamy. His butternut squash lasagne with strong cheddar and feta is a melt-in-the-mouth indulgence, that I have re-created in my own kitchen. My mushroom and blue cheese tart was as light as a feather, served with the most delicate salad generously topped with toasted pine nuts. My dessert was meringue mixed with a sharp mango puree, honeycomb and topped with ice cream and popping candy!

You can feast your eyes before your tummy, so the presentation deserves a mention: One of his best recent desserts are his cinnamon doughnuts. These are light fluffy balls covered in cinnamon brown sugar, that arrive hot in a striped paper bag, on a board with a separate pots of raspberry coulis, custard and milkshake in a tiny bottle with a striped straw. The whole thing is almost too cute for words.

f you want a memorable dining experience, drive the few miles out of Oxford to The Chequers At Burcot.

I am compelled to write to thank you for such a dining experience. From the moment we walked through the main entrance, we could tell this was going to be good. The service was amazing, so attentive and friendly.  Order our food by the fire, then onto the table where the food was incredible.  This was beyond my expectations. The Goats Cheese and the Bubble and Squeak Starters followed by the Belly Pork and the Rib eye. (Yes i tried my wife’s meals as well) were so full of flavours. Followed by the Triple Crumble, well, words fail me. Thank you for a wonderful experience, and I know I said it there but I would like to repeat it,  My Compliments to the Chef!

Went for a sunday roast with my husband and the food was just great! I had to have the beef: the yorkshires were great, and there was a wonderful selection of fresh veg to accompany too. And, i would concur with other readers, that the sticky toffee pudding was the best i have ever had!

I enjoyed two special experiences at The Chequers, over one weekend, dinner and lunch, with three friends.
I was visiting from South Africa and was really impressed with the variety and content of the menu.
The food we had, on both days, including starters, main and dessert, was different, well presented and a great variety of taste sensations. The dishes were well priced, as was the wine, with friendly efficient service.
